Come our thanks and a report from the charitable organizations

For all runners, well done at what you have achieved in this race!Plus – for all those who helped us with donations - we really appreciate your support. Thank you very much!

The Osaka Marathon has been held as a charity marathon ever since its inception. This year, we saw a total of fourteen charitable organizations participate in the event, familiarizing the general public with their work as well as supporting our activities to raise awareness of such charitable work by interacting with runners and supporters.

We introduced a new approach at EXPO, entitled a “Message Corner to Make a Rainbow Together”, allowing all participants, including runners and supporters, to convey their thoughts toward the Osaka Marathon in writing.
A big rainbow was created on the wall, including all the messages and full of passion, thoughts, aspirations, etc.

On race day, supporters on the sidelines wore Nanairo (Rainbow Color) High-Five Gloves, synonymous with the Osaka Marathon, which boosted the runners even more.
Runners and all other supporters all participated in the charitable activities in their own way; collectively enjoying and boosting the charitable activities of the Osaka Marathon.

To all runners who participated in the race - well done!
I am sure you had very difficult moments while running the 42.195km course, but you kept going all the way to the finish line, never giving up and smiling, sometimes tearfully, when reaching the goal. Many runners comment on how they receive abundant strength from the cheers on the sidelines but we, all the supporters, gained most courage and were most moved.
We hope to see you running again along the new marathon course next year. Thank you again for participating in the race!!

How your donations are usedYour donations will be used to employ earthquake-affected farmers and outsourcing expenses to a forestry cooperative to restore the 100-hectare coastal forest in Natori city, Miyagi prefecture, which was lost in the tsunami by raising seedlings and planting black pine trees, as well as silvicultural activities, which will continue until 2033.
Our planting project for the coastal forest existed before the earthquake was completed thanks to your support and all that remains is to plant 8 hectares on newly developed land to further strengthen the coastal forest.

greenbird

Thank you so much for participating in the Osaka Marathon!
It was the first time in two years that greenbird participated in the Osaka Marathon but the event has become more powerful and peaceful over the past two years and we really enjoyed being part of the race. We saw some people seriously and deeply considering what thoughts to write about the race on the EXPO venue message board. Runners gave us heartfelt high fives during the race and some crossed the finish line with both hands aloft. The attitude and posture of each runner going for the marathon were so beautiful and shone out. During the three days of event-related activities, starting with EXPO Day 1 through to race day, we gained abundant energies from runners while supporting the event at our exhibition booth, dealing with visitors as well as rooting for the runners.
Now it is our turn to deliver all our energies and strength to people nationwide. We will be using your donations to help promote our slogan: “Littering is uncool!” to the world from Osaka.

How your donations are used- We intend to use the money mainly to fund expenses for cleaning activities involving existing teams in the Kansai region and to establish new teams as well as for bibs and garbage bag production costs, costs of purchasing tongs, bulk waste treatment fees and equipment maintenance fees, etc.
- To convey Japanese litter pickup culture
Greenbird aims to disseminate the cleanup culture Japan prides itself on to the world by establishing global teams for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games as well as promoting inbound tourists to visit various areas in the country.
However, establishing teams overseas costs more than what we spend at home in terms of equipment and shipping costs. Accordingly, we intend to use your donations funded by the Osaka Marathon to establish new teams overseas.

WaterAid Japan (Specified NPO)

For those who chose to support the aqua color charity theme, including general runners, charity runners and donators, thank you so much for participating in the Osaka Marathon 2018.
Convinced that “Running can help someone”, they ran very strongly and shone along the way. This time, we participated in the event as a charitable organization and rooted for runners but actually received lots of strength and energy from them in return. With your thoughts in mind, we will continue striving to deliver clean water and toilets to all. Thank you again for your support!

How your donations are usedYour donations funded through this event will be used carefully to help provide clean water and a sanitary environment in India and East Timor. In India, 163 million people lack access to safe water and 732 million people still lack access to an appropriate toilet. One of our activities was implemented in Nuapada district in the state of Odisha, India. They currently face a severe problem with filthy groundwater caused by fluoride and WaterAid Japan has been engaged in diffusing new water supply facilities for safe drinking water, as well as educational activities in terms of water quality for local residents.

Green Charity Theme To brighten future of children

Tsurumi Children’s Hospice (General Incorporated Association)

To all runners having participated in the Osaka Marathon: Well Done!!
We were really delighted and very moved to see all of you running so hard to accomplish your goal.
The Tsurumi Children’s Hospice has been engaged in activities to support children’s growth and allow them to enjoy the same experiences as their peers in the same generation, despite their illness. This was our second year participating in the event as a charitable organization and we were glad that we could show people striving so hard to achieve their goals and conveying their thoughts to such children. Moreover, we must emphasize that our name and the activities for which we have made our name through the Osaka Marathon boosted efforts to promote our activities and we are eternally grateful! We will keep giving our best in response to your hard work and hope for your continued support.

How your donations are used“Live deep” – our activities support children who need to lead deep and fulfilling lives. Thanks to your support, we have been able to provide children with opportunities to experience new things outside hospital or their own homes such as sleepovers and playing within new spaces in collaboration with hospitals and doctors. For children in relatively good condition, they spent valuable time in-between treatments with children of their age alone, such as going camping and trying to make a pizza taught by a pizza chef with their siblings. We will continue to help create and provide warm, valuable and precious time for children with limited life expectancy together with all concerned parties.

Yellow Charity Theme To support families

Hope & Wish for Children with Life-Threatening Illness and Their Families (Non-Profit Organization Incorporated Foundation)

For runners who ran with yellow bibs under the cloudless sky, thank you so much for participating!
This marked the fifth time we participated in the Osaka Marathon as an official charitable organization and we were no less moved as we watched all runners giving their all to cross the finish line with us.
Some runners visited us at our booth at the EXPO venue, with words like “Let’s give it all this year too!” while other supporters cheered the runners on, saying “Go for it! Not long to go now!” on the sidelines. This was a moment that brought the city of Osaka together as one.
“Don’t worry. You are not alone.”
We value these phrases and keep running!

How your donations are usedWe intend to use your donations for an operation fund, used to invite children with incurable diseases and their families on vacations as well as creating a venue for such families and their supporters to meet within the local community.
Moreover, we will also use the money to support the activities of a female Japanese taiko drumming team, “Himawari-no-youni” (“Like sunflowers”), formed by mothers of such children who participated in our activities nationwide.

Japan CliniClowns Association (Specified NPO)

For runners who participated in the race, thank you so much for showing your heroic efforts, which was moving.
Watching you running your hardest, I couldn’t help but shout myself hoarse to root for you. We will never forget how you responded with smiles and high fives, saying “I made it and pushed hard after you cheered me on. Thanks so much!” Some of you were limping, grimacing and wincing but still kept going forward – runners like you were pushing the envelope. Watching such runners convinced us we should work harder and gain courage and strength.
Participating in the Osaka Marathon allowed me to experience a moment where we want to do something for someone!
Our forte is the chance to spend time together with runners as a Red Nose cheering squad.
Thank you for this day where everyone could take center stage!

How your donations are usedWe intend to use your donation to deliver “moments of being a child” where sick children can forget about their illness, even for a second and be themselves by dispatching professionally trained CliniClowns to children's wards in hospitals nationwide. We will also use the money to organize upskilling training sessions for CliniClowns to support hospitalized children and their families, as well as lecture presentations and charity events to achieve a society where all children can be themselves and anyone can smile through the “Red Nose” initiative.

Orange Charity Theme To assist child care and young people

Nobel (Specified NPO)

For all runners, thank you for participating in the Osaka Marathon!
To have all of you in the orange team completing 42.195km and calling each other’s names became an unforgettable memory for us at Nobel.
It brought home to us the fact that we can be active only because we are supported by so many people through our activities as an official charitable organization. Your thoughts will help support single-parent families and those with children with special needs. Thank you so much for your warm support and donations!

How your donations are usedNobel is an authorized NPO that actively strives as part of the vision; aspiring to realize “a society allowing parents to continue working after childbirth without much surprise” in the city of Osaka.
Your donations will be used as follows:
- Establishing an environment where single-parent families can use a day-care service for sick children for 1,000 yen per month
- Creating a support system allowing families with children having special needs to benefit from a day-care service for sick children at regular charge
(currently an additional fee is required)
Nobel will continue promoting our activities to give mental respite to as many parents as possible in that situation.

NPO Sodateage Net (Specified NPO)

An increasing number of young people say that one day, they want to run for someone after seeing charity runners trying to complete full marathons.
We noticed how some of the children have been influenced by adults close to them striving to accomplish their goals and this changed awareness seems to have sparked them into life to take on the difficult challenges they face.
Young people supported this time will challenge how best to play the role of supporters next time. Your donations funding the race will be carefully used to continue such supportive relay.

How your donations are usedYour donations will be used to provide employment support for young adults. By experiencing the workplace in collaboration with local corporations, they can get used to working and learn how to cope with their concerns and anxieties and how to eliminate such things and ultimately gain confidence to work.
For schoolchildren up to high school age, we will provide learning support and help them be independent through social experiences, as well as school visits for high school students. We aim to prevent them dropping out of school and provide continuous support by helping them out before they lose their connections with school and society.

Have you crossed the finish line or established a record? Marathons are often compared to lives. Participating in a charity activity, completing the race and establishing a record: these are not your goals and only milestones in your life. However long or short your stride, no matter who you are, we can only take one step at a time. Aiming to complete the race or establish a record, we stepped forward with you to create a society where you can live as yourself, even if you get cancer. We were moved to see you running and being grateful for every step you take and send hearty cheers to all of you. Now, it is our turn to take new steps toward fulfilling support for cancer patients with your thoughts in mind. Thank you very much!

How your donations are usedYour donations will be used to set up a support group where cancer patients living in the Kansai region centered at Osaka can gather and share information with each other and organize seminars learning about cancer where people can have the opportunity to obtain knowledge to fight against cancer, as well as strengthening collaboration among specialists such as doctors, nurses, caseworkers and clinical psychotherapists who are engaged in supporting cancer patients in the Kansai region.
